Meal Plans:
- Students must be actively enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to be eligible for a meal plan.
- Meal Plans are purchased online at www.onecard.unc.edu. Charges will appear on the student’s University account billed by Student Accounts and University Receivables.
- The Unlimited, Block and Value Meal Plans are annual contracts. The student pays half the total price in the fall and the other half is billed automatically to the student’s account for the spring. The student will be billed for the same Meal Plan in the spring semester unless the Meal Plan is changed or cancelled in accordance with these policies.
- Commuter Block and Flex Plans are semester contracts. Students signing up for the fall semester Commuter Block or Flex Plans will not be automatically enrolled for the spring semester. Students will need to sign up again for the spring semester between November 26, 2012 and February 13, 2013.
- Commuter Meal Plans are only available to students living off-campus, including students living in Ram Village, Odum Village and Granville Towers.
- The student may request to change or cancel their Meal Plan up until August 31, 2012. Meal Plans and Dining Flex that are changed or canceled prior to August 31, 2012 are credited back to the student’s account (on a pro-rated basis) at Student Accounts and University Receivables. There is no charge for the first change or cancelation during this time; however, there is a $ 50.00 processing for each change thereafter.
- If the student chooses to change from a value plan to a block plan the student is credited for the pro-rated portion of the value plan and charged for the full amount of the block plan.
- Requests to change the spring semester portion of the 2012-2013 Meal Plan contract must be done between October 17, 2012 and January 13, 2013. There is no charge to change the meal plan during this period; however, to cancel the meal plan there is a $ 250.00 cancelation fee.
- Changes to a student’s spring semester Meal Plan must be made online at www.dining.unc.edu.
- After August 31, 2012 all emergencies necessitating account changes will be handled on an individual basis by contacting the UNC One Card Office. If this emergency results in a second Meal Plan change the student may be required to pay a $50 processing fee. If the emergency results in a cancelation, the student may be required to pay a $250.00 cancelation fee.
- A student who leaves the campus at the end of the fall semester because he/she has completed the requirements for graduation or because he/she is participating in a study abroad program has the right to cancel his/her Meal Plan for the spring semester without charge. The amount charged to the student’s account for the spring semester will be credited in full. Written notification from the University Registrar for graduating students and documentation from the Study Abroad Office must be delivered to the UNC One Card Office for the student to receive the full credit by December 14, 2012.
- Meal Plans may be purchased online until August 31, 2012. Meal Plan purchases after August 31, 2012 must be made in person in the UNC One Card Office. Starting October 17, 2012, any student who did not purchase a Meal Plan for fall may purchase a spring Meal Plan. After January 13, 2013, all spring Meal Plan purchases must be made in person at the UNC One Card Office.
- All Meal Plans begin on Saturday, August 18, 2012 and go through Friday, December 14 for the fall semester and begin Sunday, January 06 and go through Tuesday, May 07 for the spring semester. Meal Plans are not available for use during official school holidays and breaks.
- Fall Semester Value and Block Plan meals do not transfer over to the spring semester and expire December 14, 2011. Spring semester Value and Block Meal Plans expire May 7, 2012.
- The Value Plan week begins on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday. Value meals do not carry over from week to week.
Dining Flex:
- Dining Flex may be purchased online at www.oncecard.unc.edu throughout the year until April 01, 2013 in increments of $50 as long as the student has a valid Meal Plan. Charges will appear on the student’s University account billed by Student Accounts and University Receivables.
- Dining Flex is restricted to applicable food items in approved dining locations only.
- When using Dining Flex in approved dining locations, purchases are exempt from North Carolina sales tax on applicable food items.
- Dining Flex may also be used for delivery to the student’s residence hall from approved restaurants. However, the sales tax exemption does not apply to these purchases.
- Any Dining Flex balance at the end of the fall semester will carry over to spring semester.
- A student must have a valid spring semester Meal Plan in order to continue to add Dining Flex to their account.
- Dining Flex will expire and is non-refundable and will expire after May 12, 2013.
- A student without a spring semester Meal Plan may use any remaining Dining Flex that was added during fall semester until the balance is zero, until May 12, 2013.
Fraternity or Sorority Meal Plan and Dining Flex Refunds:
- A student who pledges a fraternity or sorority with a mandatory meal program may change or cancel his/her Meal Plan with Carolina Dining Services. After August 31, 2012, as long as the student provides an official letter from the Greek organization to the One Card Office within 1 week of receiving the bid, he/she will only be charged a $50 processing fee at the time of cancellation.
- Upon change or cancellation, any Meal Plan or Dining Flex balance will be credited back (on a pro-rated basis) to the student’s account at Student Accounts and University Receivables, less the appropriate fees.
- Students requesting to cancel their meal plans after 1 week of receiving the bid will be charged a $ 250.00 cancellation fee.
